As a first contribution to the project implementation, Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences (IG RAS), elaborated the IT-concept of environmental geoportal with distributed GIS and remote sensing data services, Spatial Data Infrastructure (SDI) and Digital Atlases (Fig. 1-4). This concept was presented and approved by UNEP in May 2019, and provoked high interest between stakeholders at the inception workshop in Tajikistan (Annex 6.1.). Thus, the expert team from the Institute of Geography is responsible first and foremost for the creation of base spatial data, their thorough verification and organizing them in appropriate manner for all the target countries. Some spatial and attributed data on level 2 of current official administrative division of Tajikistan for the mapping scale of 1 750 000, gridded data on relief (digital elevation models and their derives) and on water objects are produced.
