The training and field practice session on methods and tools for mapping and remote sensing data interpretation on 17-21 April 2023

On April 17-21, 2023, a five-day course of trainings and field seminars on «Methods and tools for mapping and remote sensing data interpretation» was held in Almaty. The trainings were organized by specialists from Institute of Geography, Russian Academy of Sciences and Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, as well as experts from the European UNEP Office and UNDP in Kazakhstan. The training was attended by 27 specialists in the field of environmental protection, environmental management and cartography and geodesy. Among the participants were 10 representatives of Kyrgyzstan; 9 representatives of Uzbekistan; 8 representatives of Kazakhstan.

The training was built in the form of introductory theoretical lectures, on-site field workshops and practical exercises related to cameral processing of survey results using UAVs, as well as interpretation of remote sensing data.

During the five-day course, participants studied:

  1. Methods of unmanned aerial photography of agricultural objects and natural hazards;
  2. Principles of photogrammetric survey;
  3. Analysis of time series of images for monitoring and mapping;
  4. Photogrammetric processing of aerial and ground survey results;
  5. Using reanalysis to assess the changing conditions for the formation of avalanches and mudflows.
